meets on tap

The Department of Parks and Recreation will be hosting its annual track and field meets for youngsters 6 through 14, with meets at Kamehameha and Konawaena on Feb. 7.

The exponent track and field meet will be on Feb. 21 at Kamehameha and Konawaena. Both start at 9 a.m.

Participants at Kamehameha School, will have to complete a indemnification form by their parent or legal guardian.

Baseball camps

in December

There will be a showcase for baseball players in grades 9-12 on Dec. 15-16 at Wong Stadium.

There will be 18 colleges and several MLB scouts in attendance. Showcases will run from 4-9 p.m. both days.

• From 4-7 p.m. Dec. 17 at Wong Stadium there will be a youth camp for boys and girls grades 3-8. Camp cost is $65.

• On Dec. 19 at Wong Stadium will be the softball camp for girls age 10-18.

Part one runs 4-6:30 p.m. and it will be a showcase combine and defensive clinic. Part two will be a pitching clinic from 7- 9:30p.m. Each portion costs $65.

All events are co-sponsored by Kaha Wong’s Big Island Baseball and Nate Trosky’s Trosky Baseball.

Keauhou Canoe

Club race slated

Keauhou Canoe Club will hold its 16th annual Abbott Galaher SeaMan Race at 9:15 a.m. Saturday at Keauhou Bay.

The race is open to all one-man and two-man canoes, as well as standup paddleboards.

There will be a 3-mile short course standup paddleboards and paddlers in the junior (under 19), novice and recreational divisions, as well as paddlers more than 60 years of age.

The long course paddlers will race 5 miles in age group divisions.

Registration at the Keauhou Canoe Club halau at Keauhou Bay will open at 7:30 a.m.

Entry fee is $20 per paddler, plus a food donation to the Hawaii Island Food Basket.

If a food donation is not provided by the entrant, an additional donation of $10 will be collected.

Hilo Little League sign-ups slated

Hilo Little League will hold registration for players ages 12-18 through Jan. 31. The deadline for coaches’ applications is Jan. 10.
